Digital X-Rays Overview
Digital x-rays, also known as digital radiographs, are done with a dental examination to allow a better view of your oral health. X-rays allow family dentist Dr. Dieter Burr to diagnose concerns that are not visible by the naked eye, and to learn about the health of the inside of your teeth, jaw, and gums. There are several oral health conditions that can be diagnosed with digital images such as decay, cavities, cysts, abscesses, impactions, and bone loss. When these conditions are discovered early, they may have more effective and less invasive treatment options. During your annual dental examination at Advanced Dental Care in Cocoa, FL, x-rays will help Dr. Burr accurately diagnose and treat oral health conditions.

Best Candidates for Digital X-Rays
In general, x-rays are a part of your dental exam. They can be administered as part of a preventive dental treatment plan or if you are experiencing pain in your mouth. Though digital x-rays use less radiation than film x-rays, we at Advanced Dental Care like to minimize patient exposure. While they are usually safe for any patient, women who are breastfeeding or may be pregnant should talk to Dr. Burr at the beginning of the appointment so extra precautions can be taken.
What to Expect with Digital X-Rays
Often done at the beginning of your dental exam, digital x-rays takes about 5 – 10 minutes to complete. Most patients will have a series of x-rays taken to include all areas. After they are complete, they are uploaded and can be viewed by you and Dr. Burr during your examination. He will assess if there are any areas of concern and go over treatment options.
Digital X-Rays Follow-Up
A series of digital images will generally be performed once a year at your dental exam. For some visits, a whole mouth series may be performed to get a more comprehensive view of the teeth, gums, and jaw. Your digital images will be stored with your oral health file at Advanced Dental Care so Dr. Burr can view changes over time and chart any developing problems.
Digital X-Rays Insurance Coverage
Usually, dental insurance will include and cover digital imaging costs as part of a dental exam. Our office will contact your insurance company to estimate any balances. For any out-of-pocket expenses or if you don't have dental insurance, Advanced Dental Care accepts many payment methods and we can give you information on medical financing.
