"Dr. Burr's office and staff are wonderful. Like most people, I have a great deal of anxiety when it comes to dentists and when I expressed this to Dr Burr. The day of my appointment, he and his staff made me extremely comfortable and my procedure was done within a half hour. I am recommending ever one that I know to Dr Burr."- R.G. / Google / May 16, 2019
"I seen Dr Burr for what I thought might be a root canal. Turns out it was just a cracked molar and needed a crown. It was an easy fix! Dr Burr and his staff were amazing! They made sure that I was comfortable for the procedure. It only took 2 hours and my crown that was ordered came in, right on time. It fit perfectly and didnt need any adjustment. A great first time visit and experience. We will definitely be calling Dr Burr our family dentist."- R.K. / Google / May 02, 2019

As a whole, oral-conscious sedation might help children and adults alike who have anxieties or fears about the dentist's office. Before you are prescribed a medication for oral-conscious sedation, Dr. Burr will conduct a full consultation to establish if you are a good candidate. He will go over your medical history, current medications, and other factors to ensure you can safely take an anti-anxiety medication and which type will best meet your needs. Oral-sedation may not be a good fit if you currently suffer from heart or respiratory complications, are pregnant, or have had a reaction to benzodiazepines in the past.
What To Expect
There are many types of oral-conscious sedation medications that might be used. The type recommended by Dr. Burr will be influenced by you, your specific fears, your physical health, what procedure is being performed, and the predicted length of your appointment. Your sedation medication will be prescribed to you during your consultation so you can have it filled before your procedure. Since you will be taking the medication before you arrive, you should schedule to have a responsible adult escort you to your appointment. With light oral-conscious sedation, you will feel at ease but still be aware and conscious. With more significant sedation, you will also stay conscious, but your awareness of what happened will will be unclear. You might fall into a light sleep, but will easily wake.
Recovery following sedation can vary depending on what kind of medication was used during the procedure, regardless, you will need a ride home and for someone to stay with you for around three hours. You will not be safe to drive a vehicle until the next day when you have slept off the medication. Dr. Burr will talk to you at your consult about the possible side effects from the specific medication chosen for you. Typically, patients experience nausea, vomiting, headaches, and dizziness after oral-conscious sedation. The risk of nausea and vomiting can be minimized by having a light meal before taking the medication, and eating a small snack around one hour after your procedure. We invite you to call our office if you have any lingering side effects or concerns after your dental procedure.
If you have dental insurance, our team will speak with your insurance provider to determine your benefits with respect to oral-conscious sedation methods. From there, we can better tally your total costs. If you do not have dental insurance, Dr. Burr can speak with you about the payment methods that we accept, including medical financing to make your oral sedation and dental procedures more affordable.
