Implant-Supported Dentures (Fixed Full or Partial Dentures) – Cocoa, FL*

Overview

Removable dentures (both complete and partial) use messy adhesives to stay in place, but implant-supported dentures are anchored with titanium posts into your jaw in order to feel secure and stable. This ensures that the dentures will not move out of place, even as you are eating or speaking. With more security and support, patients with fixed devices can feel confident that their dentures will remain where they should be. Implant-supported dentures look attractive and can be used just like natural teeth. At Advanced Dental Care in Cocoa, FL, patients can get fixed dentures that are comfortable and natural looking. To find out more about implant-supported dentures and to decide if they are a good option for you, schedule a consultation with seasoned dentist Dr. Dieter Burr.

Best Candidates

You may be interested in implant-supported dentures if you are currently wearing removable dentures or if you need to replace most or all of your teeth and don't want to use removable dentures. Unlike removable dentures, fixed dentures do not need adhesives or soaking. Implant-supported dentures have fewer restrictions than removable dentures and can be treated like natural teeth. The implanted post mimics the natural tooth root, so your gums and jawbone are less likely to atrophy. In your consultation, Dr. Burr will assess your oral health to determine if your gums and jaw are strong enough to securely hold the implanted posts. If needed, gum and/or bone graft surgery can be used to build up your mouth before the posts are implanted.

What to Expect

To make sure your mouth is healthy enough for implant-supported dentures, Dr. Burr will complete a thorough dental exam using digital x-rays to assess the health of your gums and jawbone. If the bone or gums are too weak to accept the implanted posts, then a bone and/or gum graft can be done. Once the area has made the gums and bone strong enough, you can have implant surgery.

Local anesthesia will be administered to numb your mouth before the surgery. Options for sedation may be used if the procedure will be extensive or if you have dental fears or anxieties. Dr. Burr will make incisions in your gums and put the implants in holes in the jawbone. For dentures, four or more posts are used per arch. The gums will be stitched with the upper portion of the implanted post remaining above the gumline. The implants will be protected by a temporary denture as they heal over the next 4 – 6 months as the implants integrate with your jawbone and gums. When Dr. Burr decides the dental implants are fully healed, your custom dentures will be attached to the implanted posts and adjusted for a secure fit.

Recovery

Implant dentures can be cared for like natural teeth with regular flossing and brushing. You will need to go to regular cleanings and exams at Advanced Dental Care to have the fit and wear of your implants and dentures assessed. Properly cared for, implant dentures can last many years. Dr. Burr will help you decide if your dentures or implants need to be repaired or replaced.

Insurance Coverage

Depending on your dental insurance company, the cost of implants and custom dentures will often be partially covered. Prior to the procedure, our office will contact your insurance company to figure out your coverage and out-of-pocket expenses. Advanced Dental Care accepts many payment methods and we can tell you about medical financing to make your care affordable.
