There are many instances in which a laser gum treatment might be used. If you have gum disease, the laser can be implemented to remove bacteria and plaque that is deep in the pockets of the gum tissue. During a biopsy, the laser is used to cut out tissue from the needed area. Laser gum treatment can also be helpful if you wish to get rid of excess gum tissue and then lengthen the visible enamel for a more attractive smile. In comparison to conventional gum surgery, laser gum treatments are less invasive and do not require stitches. You may need less or no anesthesia during this gum treatment and less recovery time.
What to Expect
Your laser gum treatment can be performed in our office, which generally only requires a local anesthetic. However, other sedation options might be available if you have dental fears. Before your procedure, Dr. Burr will go over exactly what you can expect during the process whether you are being treated for gum disease, getting an oral biopsy, having crown lengthening, or undergoing cosmetic gum contouring. The laser minimizes bleeding and often eliminates the need for stitches.
Dr. Burr will give you home care instructions before you are discharged to go home. As your gums may be sore or swollen, you may want to stick to a liquid or soft food diet for a few days. For gum disease treatment or crown lengthening, you may want to schedule a follow-up appointment so Dr. Burr can assess your recovery and decide if another treatment is required. If a biopsy was conducted, you may need to come back into our office to receive your results. If oral cancer is discovered, Dr. Burr will go over your treatment options and next steps.
Once your laser gum treatment plan is created, Dr. Burr will go over your estimated costs. Advanced Dental Care accepts lots of payment methods, including low-interest medical financing. If you have dental insurance, our office will contact your carrier to determine your coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
